One fine day - summer solstice

A day of wanderings and soaking in the sunshine in Central Park, enjoying the amazing vista at the top of the Rockerfeller Centre and an evening in Bryant Park watching James Bond = one fine day.

Sheeps Meadow where the city goes to sun bake on a glorious day.

Pretend ballet dancers.
Right after this photo we noticed a creep sitting 2 metres away just staring at the Big Sissa's butt. Not so cool. Eek.
Writing a few postcards in the sunshine.
The vendor was super keen for a photo! hehe.
Yummiest coconut icecream - ever.
The Big Sissa started out rowing the boat, but we didn't get far at all. So I took over.
Hmm, how is one meant to steer when you can't see where you're going.
Ahhh, this is more like it. Blissful boating on the lake in Central Park.
Big Sissa: Ha ha. Pretend to get really close to the water spout so I can get a photo.
Me: Oh shit! I am really close and I can't stop!! Eeek.
Never fear - Crisis averted with a few crafty boating maneuvers.
What IS that thing in the water? There are heaps of them.
*Squeal* It's a turtle (more likely a tortoise, but hey). In fact its THOUSANDS of them!!!
Setting up for a gala dinner in Central Park - the opening of Shakespeare in the Park with Al Pacino.
Baseball field in Central Park.
Posing on the way to the Top of the Rock.
Ah, isn't she beautiful?

Getting ready for James Bond - Goldfinger (1967) to start in Bryant Park.
'Goooldfinger' - Shirley Bassey.
Ahhh, Sean Connery, you are a god.

Horses and Bears

On a lazy Sunday afternoon, we joined a very cool crowd and danced to the fine tunes of a Band of Horses and the warm up act the Grizzly Bears. It was wonderful. There was an amazing vibe in the crowd, a real festival atmosphere. The gig was held at the Williamsburg (Brooklyn) waterfront - a converted industrial space that was lobbied by the locals as a community space to avoid over-development of the area. It still has a really industrial feel to the venue, but it was awesome to be en-plein-air as the tunes belted out and the sun went down with the back drop of Manhattan across the East River.

A spot of market shopping on the way.
It was this little cutie's first gig.
Aussie wine!!Woohoo. (even if one of the bottles on offer was Jacob's Creek)

Hmmm, trying to make 'cats whiskers' and 'daddy's underpants' with a set of mardi gras beads is not entirely straightforward.
Concentration!
Ta dah!

A spot of market shopping on the way home too...

A mixed bag of new york minutes

We found the Naked Cowboy in Times Square. Oh boy! He was Kahrazy! He grabbed the Big Sissa and I really tightly and whispered in a deep texan voice in our ears.
Naked Cowboy (as he grabbed my hand): 'here bay-bee, lemme put yo' hand on my ass'
Naked Cowboy: (imagine a deep texan drawl) 'Oh baby, I've been so lonely. I'm lookin' fo' a woman to keep me company'

Me: 'Well you certainly have plenty of ladies to keep you company today' (Nodding to the throng of women gathering around to get a photo with him).

Naked Cowboy: 'No baby, I'm a lookin' for that someone special' (as he squeezes my sides really tightly and pretty much licks my ear)

He finished off with a winner which made me blush like crazy!

Naked Cowboy: 'oooh bay-bee, I could make you so wet in yo' panties!'

At that point my photo time was over but I couldn't get his dirty words out of my head... eeeek!

The NY Subway

The Big Sissa and I were pissing ourselves at what you could do to catch the attention of passengers on trains as they went past in the opposite direction. One option was to just 'leap' out from behind a pole and pretend like nothing was out of the ordinary. Here is how it might look. Or not. Guess you had to be there.
'Dip'. hehe. I love it. (also, M-pie, if you are reading this thanks a bunch for looking into metrocard options way back! You're the bomb.)
Some of my new bling.

Nom! Popsicles. They were so yummy and reminded me of frozen iceblocks we used to make as kids. I plan on making some next summer at home.

There is an art exhibition on in NYC at the moment which involves 60 'rogue' pianos lying around on the streets of New York for anyone to play. The artist Luke Jerram's project is called "Play Me, I'm Yours". We have seen some amazing impromptu performances all over the city.

Chilling at a local cafe 'Tillies'. It reminds me somewhat of Tilly Devine's in Lyneham actually. All the cafe's in the neighbourhood seem to have Wifi and on this particular day ALL the cafe-goers had lappy laptops - including yours truly.

Under Manhattan bridge.
Crafternoons at Etsy! Every monday afternoon. However, the afternoon I dropped in they had cancelled it on account of a special guest. So I'll have to try my luck again on another free Monday afternoon before we leave this beautiful city.
On our way to groove up a storm in central park.
Strawberry fields. for.ev.er
United Nations building.

We get to lick the back of our heads! Bet you didn't think THAT was possible. Well at the UN you can get stamps with your picture on it and post some postcards from the UN post box. All very exciting really. Except we left the building without posting any post cards because we didn't write any - SO, we have 14 stamps and cards to get ready and to make our way back across to the UN building to post the cards (apparently the US post won't accept them - bugger).

Grand Central Station.

Naww.
Spot of shopping on Smith Street, Cobble Hill Brooklyn. Oh, and the black thing attached to my back is my new guitar!
Hello sunshine and 30 degree heat!
