New York minute
Reading...
Watching... people.
Buying... red velvet cupcakes; coffees in hope of finding a good one; tickets to concerts; dinners out.
Wanting... all of my favourites to be here with me to top off these amazing adventures.
Making... lists of things to see/eat/buy.

- Job ads so I never have to come home
- the final pages of the second book in the Millennium trilogy 'The Girl Who played with Fire' (I felt totally ripped off by the abrupt and implausible ending after powering through the gripping chapters until 3am just to finish it)
- the first pages of my new chick-lit book 'Something Borrowed' - wow, so far it is so light and fluffy its hard not to laugh but I'll persevere
- about all things New York and doing my research so I can explore lots of new places (Time Out - NewYork, islandwoo.com, the New Yorker, New York Times, gonyc.com).

USA = celebrity-ville!!!
We have managed to stumble across so many actress's/actors/film people in such a short space of time. It's true that everything is larger than life in the US of A!
On the plane from Sydney to NYC we were seated next to Belinda Giblin who was in Sons and Daughters back in the day. She is still an actress but is also a management consultant and had done some work with the Qantas crew so they moved her up to Business Class when the plane took off.
The big Sissa and I were cheering as it meant we had a spare seat next to us on a pretty packed plane. But Nooooo..... two seconds later a big burly guy was moved from the back of the plane to sit next to the Big Sissa. Not only was he a professional shooter going to the US for a shooting competition (I think clay target shooting???) but his real job is as an action producer on George Miller films (think Happy Feet and the upcoming Mad Max remake with Charlise Theron). Very showbiz!
On our second night in town we went to an off Broadway play starring Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell. While I was waiting in the line for the ladies I spotted Patience from The Grates. I thought it was too creepy to ask for a photo with her while waiting in the line for the loos, so I settled for a hello.
Then yesterday we walked down the stairs from the High Line Park (M-pie and Jmack - thank you - best suggestion ever) into the Meat Packing district and straight onto the film set for a new chick flick starring Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin (she plays Gigi in 'he's just not that into you'). Its due out next year - called 'Something Borrowed'.

But I don't. I have a knock-about Canon point and shoot. Which I love! and I rarely need extra zoom and super lens' to take photos of celebs ;)
As we were loitering around the film set, this guy 'Ivan from Croatia' chatted us up. I believe his role in the film crew is to stop people walking down the public street so as not to interfere with the film set. He bailed us up for AGES talking talking talking. THEN it lead to him wanting to catch up with us for drinks. He gave his digits to the Big Sissa and then wanted hugs and kisses goodbye. This is a shot of the Big Sissa trying to escape a grimy hug and kiss. I had already walked away - he was creeping me a little too much.
Later in the afternoon we headed north to Radio City Music Hall. The Big Sissa had heard that the premiere of Sex and the City 2 was on that evening. We braved the masses on the side walk just as the stars were starting to walk down the red carpet. There was a barricaded section for spectators to stand in but behind that was the side walk where security and police were moving people along so we couldn't hang around and watch. We saw a lady sweettalk her way into the packed barricade next to us and we tried to do the same. This didn't go down so well as the people inside the barricade were already so squished and everyone had been lining up for hours, whereas we just rocked up. The Big Sissa pleaded that 'We've come all the way from Australia!' and a lovely Aussie guy who was already behind the barricades turned and smiled at us, opened up the barricade and created some space in front of him for us. Once inside it was still pretty squishy but it was a team effort with the people around us to guess who all the stars were (there were lots of others besides the SATC actors). Great times.
SJP came out to greet the crowds! She was the 0nly one. Oh my - she is soooo hot!

By this time my camera died as it was so low on batteries. I had to resort to my trusty old mobile phone camera. (My shitty old Nokia has come through with the goods so many time recently that I should really stop bagging it).

Brooklyn: L'appartement
When we arrived at the apartment in Brooklyn yesterday, the landlady told us our apartment wasn't ready until the following day however we were free to stay in the two bedroom apartment upstairs for the evening.
So we dumped our bags and went exploring in the area - super cute!
Today we have moved into our little abode (for the next month and a bit) - check.it.out!
Then back on the bus to make the most of the 96hour tickets. Today was the Brooklyn loop with the cutest old Texan grandpa tour guide.
The bus stopped in downtown Brooklyn so we could get a taste of authentic New York pizza. I was the only fatty to get off the bus to go and try some. Embarrassing much?
This super cute Nana was rocking out in her New Balance kicks. She knows where the comfort is at.
This couple was rocking out the 'triple denim couple' look - wish I could have taken a photo from the front to show you just how good this denim combo was.

NYC: moving into apartment day
Out the door in search of breaky.
Nom nom - Amy's Bakery on 9th was just what the doctor ordered.
We had a bit of time to kill in the morning so we wandered down to Times Square and just happened to stumble across the m&m store (just for you Margot!).
And now... after this morning's fun... off to Brooklyn we go.

New York: Day 1
The Big Sissa was keen to get the tourist double decker bus around the city so we could get our bearings (coincidentally we have 4 more days of bus to enjoy - we got a deal and hey, we went with the flow. Going to get to know the bus route really really well). It was an awesomely sunny 28degree day so we got our tan on, on the top of the bus and checked out the sights of NYC.

FAO Schwartz - THE toy store. Big Sissa and I had THE BEST time playing in the dress ups and with the toys.
'Hussy Barbie', 'Beyonce Wannabe Barbie', 'New York Barbie', 'L.B.D. Barbie' - So.many.barbies.
Have you seen the movie 'BIG' with Tom Hanks? (p.s. Miss M, ask Mr O about his 'love' of Tom Hanks hehe) So I pretended to be Tom Hanks and played chopsticks on the giant piano. hehe. Me and 10 other kids had the same idea.
In the arvo we went to the Museum of Modern Art for Free Friday. But wow oh wow - the crowds were amazing. We did a quick burn around before it got too much. Will go back another day fo'sure.
We dropped back to the hostel (doorway at #635) for a quick skype chat with the parentals (to hear whether the liver transplant for my aunt is going ahead! Operation was scheduled for that day)
By then I was preeeettty hungry - so we dropped into '5 Napkin Burger' restaurant across the road from our hostel before heading to the Theatre for a cultured evening.
There are so so many options of Broadway and off broadway shows to see. We opted for rush tickets ($26 instead of $126) on the morning of the show, which also means back row seats but the theatre was pretty small.
The play starred Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken (they always play creepy characters in Hollywood movies). It was funny, although I do have to admit to a few 40-winks in the middle as I was so so dead tired. I blame jet-lag.
Also, lining up for the ladies I spotted Patience from the Grates. I so wanted to get a photo with her but I thought it was a little creepy in the line for the toilets. So I settled for a hello.
